Profamil - Built for Continuity of Care in Haiti

In Haiti’s fragile health system, PROFAMIL delivers over 230,000 clinical services each year through clinics and mobile outreach, playing a critical role in reproductive health. As a long-standing partner, Papyrus has accompanied PROFAMIL in strengthening its internal systems over time, ensuring that the organization can focus on what matters most, continuity of care.

Recently, PROFAMIL secured support from a major international health-focused donor to expand its reproductive health services. In Haiti’s current context, where accessing support is increasingly difficult and systems are under strain, this result reflects more than a successful proposal. It demonstrates the value of sustained accompaniment and the kind of long-term support that Papyrus is committed to providing.

Papyrus’ support to PROFAMIL did not begin with this effort. As early as 2015, through an earlier initiative that laid the groundwork for internal improvements, we had already been working closely with their team to strengthen areas like Monitoring & Evaluation and strategic development. That collaboration evolved gradually, built on trust and shared commitment.

As donor requirements evolved, Papyrus co-developed six administrative and financial manuals with PROFAMIL, each aligned with international standards but tailored to local practices. They were finalized in English for donor alignment, then made available in French so that every team member could use them confidently. This reduced confusion, saved valuable time, and allowed staff to focus more on service delivery and less on administrative delays.

“It was really a participatory process,” said Florence, Executive Director of PROFAMIL. “Papyrus did not show up and say: ‘Here is the manual, here is the chart of accounts.’ Our whole team was involved. We shaped the tools together.”

Through its partnership with Humentum, Papyrus provided targeted input on donors’ standards. This enabled the tools to meet donor expectations without compromising organizational ownership or relevance. It’s a reminder of how unlocking partnerships can elevate local solutions.

With strong systems in place, PROFAMIL’s proposal reflected both technical merit and operational strength. This outcome reflects the impact of sustained accompaniment.
